2/10 update

LtCol Brennan, 2/10 Battalion Commander sends this update:

Well, the holidays are over, again thank you all for the wonderful support you have been providing us.

Your Marines are truly a part of history. They were key players in Operation Al Fajr (the liberation of Fallujah) and currently we are preparing for the first free elections in Iraq . Your Marines will all have some thing to tell the children about.

Now on to what is truly on your minds, when we will come home. Unfortunately, I won't have those dates until approximately 30 days before we are scheduled to return. I can tell you, currently no unit in 2/10 is scheduled past the 7 month mark or 210 days in country, so all rumors of 2/10 being extended are officially untrue. As for official return dates, as I confirm them they will be released by each Btry commander. When I know they will know.

Well again thank you for your continuing support and we all look forward to coming home.

God Bless

Lt Col Brennan

Yes, it's amazing to hear that destroying a city is now called liberating it. You know yourself the world would be a better place if you all went home as soon as possible

Patrick, where are you getting your information? Did you know that citizens of Fallujah left notes for our Marines thanking them for cleaning out the city? That they left food for them and offered their beds? That some told our troops that it was worth losing their homes to gain the freedom to live without fear?

Didn't think so.

I am not going to form an opinion until after the elections. Recently I have formed more of a neutral stance towards Iraq, that is, I am confused. I will say this: I believe that 99.44% of all Marines are doing noble work. My doubts are directed towards some of the politics that the military has no control over. Still, I think the greatest problem is the basic lack of cultural understanding on both sides that is exacerbated by the willful propoganda fed to the basically uneducated Iraqis by their 'leaders' (but I have noticed that niether this Zarqawi or Osama bin Laden guy have ever wanted to kill themselves for Allah--I guess that's an entry level thing in Al Queda--but how did these guys get where their at today without paying their own dues? Jihad is a confusing thing. At the very least, I do believe in the moral courage of the United States. I do believe that we have made mistakes--but if you really look closely, you can see that our military power is such that if it were in the hands of any other country: China, Iran, or Ancient Rome, that power would have been used to its full extent, that is, all of Iraq would be Carthage, every city would be Fallujah, and all Iraqis would be dead. In conclusion, I realize that our government, our people, and our military is in fact, with all things considered, very, very merciful.

Thank You,
MATTSON
