33 KIAs, 400 Purple Hearts
If you're not reading Juggernuts, you're missing out on a unique view of the world in general and occasionally the military in specific. Sometimes, Cris posts something that takes my breath away . . . and this picture, taken by his father (retired USMC Colonel) is one of those. Visit his site to read the accompanying e-mail from his dad (snippet below):

I was an invited guest for the memorial dedication honoring the KIA's of 3dBn, 1st Marines. The CO, LtCol W. Buhl, a very impressive officer. This shot shows the formation of the 33 KIA's, with helmet, rifle, boots & name tags. |
Visit Juggernuts for the rest of the story.

I appreciate your posting this article, and the presence of this site. My mom is a Marine Corps Mom (and a Navy mom), but she no longer has to worry and pray for her sons, she does it for others and their children. During the Operation Desert Shield / Desert Storm she would have loved this site. Myself and my younger brother were both away from home on duty. It's a noble and honorable thing you've done.
I've left the active service of the Corps, but it's never left me. It beats in my heart and flows through my veins. I have never / will never regret the day I walked across the grinder at MCRD Parris Island and I thank you from my soul for reminding me of that once again.
